Beautiful and healthy teeth require regular care. The right technique is crucial. In today's blog post, we explain how to brush your teeth properly, what you need to pay attention to and how often you need to brush.
Dental health plays an important role when you consider overall human health. The general recommendation is to brush twice a day. Ideally, you should brush your teeth in the morning and evening. To remove all food residue, brushing in the morning after breakfast is better than before breakfast. Your brushing session should last between two and three minutes. However, you should definitely avoid vigorous scrubbing. This not only damages the sensitive tooth enamel, but can also damage the gums.
If you have consumed acidic drinks or food, you should not reach for your toothbrush straight away. If you allow some time to pass, the sensitive tooth enamel can regenerate better. Immediate cleaning and the acid can put additional strain on the tooth enamel.
You should change your toothbrush or brush head every two to three months at the latest. Worn-out bristles remove significantly less plaque.
The technique influences the cleaning result
Toothbrushes can be seen as tools. To clean your teeth thoroughly, you should rely on a brush that is easy to use and that cleans all teeth and gaps thoroughly. With regular toothbrushes, you should place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your teeth. The best way to clean your teeth is to use light, swinging and shaking movements from the gums to the crown of the tooth. Avoid vigorous scrubbing.
If you brush your teeth in sections, you will brush them most effectively. First the outside, then the inside. First the upper jaw, then the lower jaw. Finally, clean the chewing surface of your molars. You can press a little harder on the chewing surface.
Where a normal toothbrush can hardly reach
There are tooth surfaces and gaps where a normal toothbrush fails. The gaps between teeth are often particularly difficult to clean. This is where most food particles and associated bacteria accumulate. Cleaning with dental floss or a suitable interdental brush is recommended. However, using dental floss and special interdental brushes is very time-consuming, as each gap between teeth must be cleaned individually.
Instead of a normal manual toothbrush, you can also use an ultrasonic toothbrush. This works at the touch of a button. The round brush head cleans your teeth and the spaces between your teeth thoroughly. Pressure when brushing is usually not necessary, as our emmi®-dent ultrasonic toothbrush, for example, "oscillates independently", but without vibration. Thanks to the clever brush head, brushing is possible without mechanical movement.
